Dairy Farm Adventure November 20, 2009

This week has been a little hectic, I am busy getting our house in order for the boys 2nd birthday party, and let me tell you our house needs some work.  The clutter and junk that just piles up, ugh.  Or the fact that as soon as I clean the floors in a matter of minutes its dirty again.  Maybe I should have a party every week just to keep my house clean.

But anyways I wanted to show some pictures of a fun little trip we went on last week.  Just me, the boys, My Mother in Law, and My Sister in law Stacy (remember the one who throws great parties) and niece, Ker.  We had a fun time and the boys really enjoyed all the animals.

First stop was petting some of the farm animals including this donkey, though Little W was a bit scared of him because he would get to hee-hawing, and it was a bit loud.

and this dairy cow who is a retired commercial actress, shes been in at least 10 Blue Bell Ice Cream commercials.  Now she lives the retired life, eating as much grass and feed as she could want.

Here’s a picture of the group.

then we moved on to feeding the goats, a trip isn’t complete without feeding goats

Little H really loved how they licked his hand, just look at that tongue, his not the goats

Then we met the big ol pig, and could even pet her.  Later as we were leaving Little H and I walked back over to her and noticed they had given her a pumpkin to eat.  And he just loved that the piggie was eating a pumpkin.  So if I ask him now what the pig did, he snorts (like a pig) and says pumpkin piggie pumpkin.

Next up were the turkeys they were fluffing out their feathers at us, and Little H would do a high pitch squeal (just because that’s what he does) and they would all start gobbling, it was hilarious

Little Ker got to bottle feed a calf, she just loved it and was a natural at it

The calves were just too cute, and would suck on your fingers, if you let them

Then we were off to the dairy farm to tour the milking and feeding facilities, so of course we took a hay ride behind a tractor, and the boys were in heaven

Can’t you tell by Little W face this is all it takes to make him happy

After they milk the cows they feed them, what a sight! Wish I would have gotten a little closer, but the are all eating, all 150 of them.

and I didn’t get any pictures of the milking

except we got to hand milk a cow

Little W was a little nervous about it at first

But Little H jumped right on in (with help) and squirted that milk

So not to be out down by bubba Little W gave it another go

Then we ladies tried and succeeded by decided not to take pictures, besides that it reminded us a bit too much of nursing, and then we felt sorry for that poor cow.

Mommy’s Lipstick November 4, 2009

Hi my name is Little H.   I am a sweet innocent boy.  Who quietly plays with my toys and never ever finds any trouble.

What’s that you ask?  What’s on my face?

I just wanted to show Mommy exactly how lipstick should be applied.  Apparently she does it all wrong, and only gets it on her lips.

But I think a little on the nose and ears works also!

maybe a little on the forehead too!  Just to balance things out.

Hope you enjoyed your makeup lesson.  I am sure to be back with another lesson before long.

Duck Hunters November 2, 2009

The boys had a great time for Halloween this year.  They went as duck hunters, ducks, face paint and all.  We went trick or treating to a few houses, but the boys had fun, and mostly fun running around and loved being chased.

DT even joined in on the fun, except he had a slight accident with his gun.  And the boys kept pointing to it saying it was a boo boo.  It did look kinda real.

Of course I had to have a little fun also!

First Stop Lalo and Poppy’s (my parents house)

They were so wiggly and excited they didn’t want to take any pictures

Next Stop Granny’s house

She and Aunt Sanny were sure to give them plenty of candy

We stopped in for a bit and Pop-po and Little H switched hats

He’s got a little room to grow.

Then we went outside to take pictures and the race was on

But we finally got a good one

Then the race was on again!

They had a great time, we went back home and had family and plenty of trick or treater’s stop by!

Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween.  What are some of your Halloween Traditions?

Glitter Pumpkins or Gourds October 27, 2009

The other day at the grocery store they were selling bags of gourds.  Seems normal right?  People use them for decorations, fall them baskets etc.  So I grabbed 2 bags with the intention of decorating with them in my fall basket and then later saving some of the seeds in hopes to plant next year and grow my own gourds. (dork I know)

Any who after coming home with no less than 20 gourds of varying sizes and shapes, I posted on facebook (yes I am one of the masses that loves facebook) about my recent purchase, and asking what I should do with them.  When my mom’s cousin (Howdy Pam) had the brilliant idea of painting them with glitter and making it a craft for the boys.  But then I thought, how in the world could I do this, my boys would ingest glue and glitter, there has bound to be a non-toxic foody way.  And boy was there……

As I get myself into these long drawn out “fun” crafts I always end up thinking why do I do this to myself.  But I am always searching for something fun to do and this fit the bill.

So for glitter, I simply made colored sugar!  Orange (yes that is suppose to be orange), blue and green, a few drops in each and just stirred until colored.

Then for glue the fun part!! A homemade non toxic kid friendly glue, gotta love that.

Ingredients: 3/4 cup water, 2 T corn syrup, 1 tsp vinegar,  3/4 cup cold water and 1/2 cup corn starch

In a small saucepan, add the water and corn syrup and vinegar, stir well

and bring to a rapid boil

meanwhile measure 3/4 cup cold water and 1/2 cup cornstarch, stir until dissolved

then slowly add cornstarch to the first mixture, stirring constantly

Until it thickens and cools and you have yourself glue!

Then I lightly brushed the glue on to the gourds, and handed one to each child

along with a sprinkle of sugar glitter

They each tested it out

*Little H in the blue, and Little W in the brown

and rolled them around

and then the inevitable  happened, they had to taste it!

So they played and added more colors, and ate more!

More glitter please mommy!

Until they were a huge sticky sugary gluey mess!

And the sugar glitter was starting to get uncomfortable

and everywhere

so straight to the bath tub they went!

Overall I think they really enjoyed it, and heck anything that makes a mess and results in a bath, is a double win in these two’s book!

Though I am a bit surprised at how well the finished product turned out!

all the bright colors look a bit more like Mardi Gras then Halloween!

But all in all, it was pretty fun! Even for me!

What’s a favorite Halloween project of ours?  Or even your favorite thing to do with gourds?

Homemade Glue

Ingredients:

3/4 cup water

2 tbsp. corn syrup

1 tsp. white vinegar

1/2 cup cornstarch

3/4 cup cold water

Directions:

Mix water, syrup and vinegar in saucepan. Bring to a rolling boil. In small bowl, mix cornstarch and cold water. Add this mixture slowly to first mixture. Stir constantly. Cool and use.
